About

I’m Fernanda, an animation director, illustrator, and graphic novelist.

I’ve spent over a decade creating emotionally resonant stories across film, publishing, and digital media. I’ve directed an award-winning animated short, worked as an art director on high-profile international campaigns, and directed commercial projects for local agencies.

I specialize in character design, visual development, illustration, and 2D character animation. My background as a CG character animator and director allows me to lead multidisciplinary teams across CG, 2D, and stop-motion. I’ve guided projects from concept and ideation through scripting, production, and final delivery.

My favorite part of the process is early ideation. I love brainstorming through sketches and collaborating closely with clients to clarify their vision and message.

Whether I’m developing original IP, tackling commercial briefs, illustrating picture books, or supporting clients in their creative journey, my focus is always on authenticity, clarity, and helping others bring their ideas to life.

Here's the Plan - Picture book

I had a wonderful time working on the picture book adaptation of my animated short film "Here's the Plan". The book is 62 pages long and fully illustrated in color. I created the illustrations using a mix of painted-over renders from the original CG backgrounds and brand new character art for each page. It was published by Planeta Chilein 2023, and I self-published the English edition as a PDF. "Kat and Doug have a plan: to love each other forever and open their bakery. To achieve this, they spend their days making cupcakes in their kitchen, but when the oven explodes, they must find other jobs and postpone their dream. As time passes, their ambitions will change, as will their relationship. Will they manage to open the bakery and find their way back to each other? Fernanda Frick, author of the graphic novel "Trazos," narrates a story overflowing with heart about loving what we do and not giving up on our dreams. "Here's the Plan" is an adaptation of the award-winning short film of the same name, awarded "Best Children's Short Film" at the Valdivia Film Festival and "Best Chilean Short Film" by the Chilemonos Animation Festival. Additionally, it was selected by multiple international festivals and pre-selected for the prestigious Oscar award."
