Gavin's the name, and writing is the game. I'm a graduate of SUNY Purchase with a BA in Playwriting and Screenwriting. I was in the class of 2021, so I was committed to earning this degree. While at Purchase, I had amazing opportunities to have my play read at the student-run playwriting festival POV Fest, to be selected as a student in a hybrid class of writers and actors, and to meet and talk with established authors in different settings. Outside of the educational space, I've written, directed, and helped shoot an original short film at the Cape Cod Community Media Center through their camp program, and was also offered an internship position. I was also an early member of the writing team of the Momentum Mod, an independent video game. Writing is my life; I've dedicated myself to doing it as much as possible, money or not. Money is nice, in fact, I do enjoy it, but seeing words you create become a tangible piece of art people can connect to is the real benefit. It unfortunately cannot be exchanged for goods and services, but it feels good nevertheless.

    Hyacinthus

    https://www.twine.net/signin

A play that retells the Greek myth of Hyacinth. Hyacinth is notably a gay lover of the sun god, Apollo, and one of the most prominent gay men in Greek Mythology. Hyacinth chose Apollo over Zephyr, the West Wind. In jealousy, he kills Hyacinth while the two lovers play a game of discus.

While not many original texts of most Greek myths survive, I wanted to give Hyacinth a voice, a narrative, and a character. For him to be so prominent in gay history, he should at least have words to say. In this rework, the conflict is over a god truly devoting himself to a human man, and the real love that was there, even when it couldn’t help.

This play was also chosen to be read for SUNY Purchase’s POV Fest.
