A fantastical musical allegory for voices, orchestra and video produced by Ken Kiernan and co-written by me with Kevin Godley - the musician formerly with 10CC and, whose work as a video director with artists like Sting and George Harrison, helped forge what was a new idiom in the 80s.
LYNCHING SAM is an anti-Fascist political statement in music. Its characters include Uncle Sam, Harriet Tubman, Nat Turner and others. The music is recorded with orchestra and, features Evelyn Kalansee as Harriet Tubman, Kevin Godley as Uncle Sam and Nat Turner, a gospel choir and, with mezzo soprano vocalist by Jana Dvorkova. This ambitious, early movie is based on Dante’s Inferno. It was the first feature film made in Italy and was immensely successful. It was co-directed by Francesco Bertolini, Adolfo Padovan, and Giuseppe de Liguoro and had international distribution. Its production design and execution are striking and memorable. My score for this movie combines world music elements with electronics and medieval chant.
