JT Design
Graphic design is, to me, the marriage of art, technology, and communication. I have been steeped in the arts and technology for most of my life, and later in life I was able to develop the skills of communication through my career in music and the nonprofit sector. With a creative mother who has an untiring work ethic and an electrical engineer father with a propensity for big dreams, becoming a graphic designer was almost inevitable!
My career in graphic design evolved through untraditional means. My whole life I have been a professional musician, but after finishing my education in violin performance I became steeped in nonprofit work. Out of necessity, I had to step into roles that I had no formal training in, such as project management, accounting, curriculum development, and of course, graphic design. However, many skills that I acquired through music are evident throughout any work that I do: attention to detail, a standard of high-quality output, time management, open and honest communication, and commitment to hard work.
2017 was the year I started to make graphic design a standalone side gig for myself, but it has gradually become my primary career and source of income. My three design specialties are logos and branding, sports design, and content for arts nonprofits. Logo design is like solving a puzzle; I enjoy the challenge of encapsulating an entire mission with just a few simple shapes. My taste for sports design came from my first long-term design client of 6 years, designing sports posters for high school teams. And of course, most of what I have designed throughout my career has been for arts nonprofits.
Today, I live in Cleveland Heights, OH with my wife Marilyn, our Bernedoodle, Reggie, and our new daughter, Joella.
