I’m Julia, a life sciences graduate based in Copenhagen, with hands-on laboratory experience supporting in vivo rodent neuroscience research. I’ve worked extensively with stereotaxic surgery, viral injections, optic fibre and electrode implantation, fibre photometry, histology, and microscopy, with a strong focus on following detailed protocols and maintaining accurate experimental records. In both my MSc and earlier roles, I’ve also contributed to experimental design and troubleshooting under time and resource constraints. I analyze quantitative data using Python, GraphPad Prism, SPSS, and TDT tools, and I’m comfortable turning observations into practical improvements—such as refining implantation protocols when results were inconsistent. I’m now looking to apply these bench skills in a biotech, pharma, CRO, or diagnostics environment.

Work Experience

MSc Researcher/Assistant, Dept. of Neuroscience at University of Copenhagen (Kiehn Lab)
August 1, 2025 - June 30, 2026
Performed stereotaxic surgeries for viral injections and optic fibre implantation in mice; confirmed targeting and placement via immunohistochemistry and fluorescence microscopy. Delivered optogenetic stimulation and recorded neural activity via fibre photometry using TDT systems; processed recordings with custom Python scripts and quantified responses (AUC analysis) in GraphPad Prism. Independently carried out stereotaxic electrode implantation for a DBS pilot protocol in a genetic (MitoPark) mouse model, identifying mechanical instability as a likely driver of inconsistent outcomes and feeding findings back into protocol refinement. Co-designed and ran a behavioural testing paradigm to probe stimulation parameters while maintaining detailed experimental records.
Undergraduate Researcher at University of St Andrews (School of Psychology & Neuroscience)
September 1, 2022 - March 31, 2023
Handled animals and ran a multi-stage behavioural task (bowl-digging paradigm) across repeated testing sessions. Recorded trials-to-criterion data for each animal, analyzed behavioural results using SPSS, and contributed to a written dissertation supported by a structured literature review.
