After a few early years working in different corporate and nonprofit settings, I decided to branch out to full-time freelance. While I typically work alone, there are times I need to farm to work to other creatives and have the experience of managing them. My philosophy there is to give them as much space as I can to see what they can do with my upfront direction. I paint broad strokes where possi-ble to allow the creative process to blossom and, from there, explain and direct changes and edits. I believe it’s important to the process to give agency to a designer since creativity and it outcomes are so subjective. That said, graphic design is functional art that has to meet a demand and sometimes what looks beautiful, might not meet the needs of the project/cli-ent. It’s crucial to adapt where necessary. I have the distinct joy of loving what I do and I believe that is an advantage to my clients. When I am not working, I love to be outdoors doing just about anything—dog walking, running, hiking, playing tennis, mountain biking—you name it.
