Hi! I’m Kate I’m a junior creative, detail oriented digital marketer with a background in East Asian Studies and Communications. My experience living in both Japan and China has heavily shaped my visual storytelling, market research strategy, and audience targeting. My interest in the digital space all started when an online blog led me into the world of Japanese lolita fashion subcultures. This was my most formative experience where I truly realized the power of digital media for reaching the right audiences and introducing them to concepts they otherwise wouldn't have discovered. Digital creativity, storytelling, and curiosity have followed me throughout my entire life. As a teenager I made fake magazine covers for Japanese clothing brands like Lizlisa and Angelic Pretty, and ran East Asian pop culture blogs online designed with CSS and HTML. I learned through these online spaces how to reach and appeal to a community that shared the same interests. My passions drove me to pursue my degree in East Asian studies BA and minor in Communications: culture, media, and entertainment at the University of Southern California. As I began to experience new sides of the world studying in Tokyo and Shanghai, I learned the true value in gaining exposure to different cultures and perspectives. This journey has been crucial in my current path as a digital marketer. I took my strengths and passions into my work at They Alley in Cedar Park: a Taiwan based bubble tea cafe specializing in Asian-inspired drinks and seasonal anime collaborations. I applied my global perspectives into my market research, social media campaigns, influencer outreach, and in-person events coordination. Now, I’ve learned to bring together my passion for exploring other cultures with hands-on experience to bring thoughtful, imaginative, and effective solutions to the digital marketing field. Previously, I worked as a freelance commissioned artist creating original character designs and artworks inspired by East Asian pop culture styles. Recently, I just completed my internship with Tangshan Yingcai School, where I helped develop and promote the school’s newly formed international department. I applied my knowledge from my previous roles to make promotional content while delivering public speeches and resources to build credibility and get students interested in studying abroad.
