Turning Complex Ideas into Compelling Visual Communications.
Hi, I’m Kathryn Jones, founder and principal of Chelsea Jones Design, and I help organizations turn complex ideas into clear, compelling visual communications. Over the past 25+ years, I’ve partnered with marketing, communications, and business development teams to develop brand-forward creative—ranging from executive presentations and proposal graphics to integrated campaigns and conference experiences—so audiences understand, engage, and act.
I work as both a strategic advisor and a hands-on creative partner, combining visual storytelling with production-ready execution. Whether simplifying dense scientific and medical content for global audiences, elevating high-visibility conferences with end-to-end branding and environmental graphics, or creating proposal visuals that support multimillion-dollar wins, I bring senior-level judgment, clear communication, and personal attention to every project.

Inspired by the highly shareable format of Spotify Wrapped, this year-end social campaign transformed the Journal of Thoracic Oncology’s 2025 content into a personalized-looking “year in review” experience for its scientific audience.
The challenge was to take a format typically associated with music, personality, and entertainment and make it meaningful for a highly specialized medical audience. I translated the familiar “your year in numbers” concept into editorial metrics—highlighting the journal’s most-cited articles, research, and impact through bold, data-driven graphics designed for social media.
The visual system uses strong typography, oversized numbers, bright color, and varied compositions to create the energy and shareability of a Wrapped-style campaign while maintaining the credibility of a scientific publication.
Same idea: look back at your year. Different soundtrack.

Designed the brand identity for a new Leidos energy management platform in 2023, with an eye toward where the product—not just the initial launch—was headed.
The core EMS identity combines a snowflake and sun to represent the management of energy across changing conditions. From there, I developed a scalable brand architecture that could accommodate an expanding family of products and services. Each new offering receives its own supporting icon and descriptor while maintaining the recognizable EMS identity.
The system launched with EMS Trending and EMS Scheduling, creating a consistent visual framework that could continue to grow as new capabilities were introduced.
The goal wasn’t just to create a logo. It was to create a brand that had room to grow.

One Mission. Every Member, a Point of Impact.
Developed the visual concept and design system for IASLC’s 2025 Annual Report, translating the organization’s global community into a graphic language of individual points coming together to create something larger.
The cover uses hundreds of individual circles to form a globe—an expression of IASLC’s worldwide reach and the collective impact of its members. That language carries throughout the report, creating visual continuity across photography, content, data, and section openers.
The result is an annual report that feels global, human, and distinctly IASLC, while establishing a visual system that could extend naturally into other communications.
The “One Mission. Every Member, a Point of Impact.” messaging reinforced the concept beautifully.

Sometimes a good idea just needs the right place to live.
I originally developed the overlapping-ring concept for an IASLC Annual Report that ultimately took a different creative direction. The marketing director loved the concept, however, and saw an opportunity to bring it into the organization’s exhibition presence.
For the European Lung Cancer Conference (ELCC), I reimagined the rings as a flexible environmental graphic system. The interconnected circles create movement and visual continuity across the booth panels and counter, while varying their scale and placement keeps the space energetic without competing with the messaging.
The result is a cohesive booth experience that feels distinctly IASLC while giving different communications—from membership messaging to conference promotions—a consistent visual home.
A concept that didn’t make the report found a much bigger stage.

The original presentation ran more than 40 slides, and the presenter was so nervous about delivering it to a large audience that he nearly canceled. He was accustomed to relying heavily on bullet points, so the challenge was to dramatically simplify the story while giving him enough structure to feel confident.
Working closely with him, we cut the presentation in half and rebuilt it around a TED Talk–style approach: fewer words, stronger visual moments, purposeful data, and a clear narrative arc. The slides became visual cues rather than a script, allowing the presenter to focus on telling the story instead of reading the screen.
The result: 20 focused slides, a more engaged audience, and a presenter who was ready to take the stage.

What began as a visual concept for IASLC’s annual report evolved into a flexible graphic language for the organization. The original globe—constructed from hundreds of colorful circles—represented IASLC’s global community and the interconnected nature of its work.
For ASCO 2026, I extended the concept into a bold lung graphic designed to work at exhibition scale. The recognizable form communicates lung cancer instantly, while the color, circular forms, and interconnected shapes continue to reinforce IASLC’s global reach and collaborative mission.
This conference included all types of cancer, the full panel lung graphic clearly illustrated lung cancer across a crowded conference hall.
The idea stayed consistent. The application changed to meet the communication challenge.

Designed a flexible presentation system for Leidos’ Digital Utilities team that brought consistency and polish to presentations without making every presentation look the same. The system included three distinct title-slide options and a library of core layouts for everything from mission and vision to leadership principles, growth initiatives, and business results.
Built as a practical toolkit, the template gives engineers, executives, and other team members a strong visual foundation they can easily build on and customize for their audience, content, and objectives. options and core slides for engineers to use as a base for recruiting, educating, and a pitch deck.
