I'm Kunal Nandi, a mechanical engineer and designer with degrees from Imperial College London, the Royal College of Art, and the University of Bristol. Born in the UK, I am eligible to work in Ireland and have around two decades of experience across aerospace, automotive, marine, consumer goods, and fashion. I specialize in CAD design, design for manufacture, toleranced drawings, and prototyping of test parts and rigs. I am comfortable behind a screen as well as in the workshop and have worked with CNC shops, 3D printing, and other manufacturing partners. Since relocating to Ireland with my family, I am seeking interesting and rewarding opportunities that leverage my cross-disciplinary skills in product design and mechanical engineering. Most recently I designed and documented subsystems for a large drone-vessel program at XOcean, and previously contributed to consumer electronics, medical devices, and fashion projects in consulting and studio environments.

Work Experience

Mechanical Design Engineer at XOcean
August 1, 2024 - November 13, 2025
Designed and managed the generator compartment for a large prototype vessel, integrating engine, exhaust, coolant, electrical and safety subsystems with a mix of off-the-shelf and custom components. Used Fusion 360 to create parts and assemblies and authored work instructions documenting subsystem fabrication. Led development of a new generator type and collaborated with field and maintenance teams to create reliable, safe setup procedures for the winch system.
Mechanical Engineer at PA Consulting (formerly Design Partners)
May 1, 2024 - May 1, 2024
Delivered engineered external surfaces for consumer and medical devices (e.g., Logitech mouse in Creo/Pro-E; pole-mounted drug-delivery device in SolidWorks). Designed plastic parts for Nokia earbuds/case with embedded electronics; assisted assembly of a body-mounted arm crane prototype; prototyped a rubber arm strap for dialysis; produced production CAD for a clip for heads-up displays. Also contributed to electronic/assembly aspects of multiple projects and documented manufacturing data.
Electro-Mechanical Engineer at SharkNinja
February 1, 2021 - February 1, 2021
Part of an international R&D team to redesign an electric motor for higher efficiency and lower noise, including developing a new assembly method and aerodynamic improvements. Produced over 120 CAD models for experimental rigs and created toleranced drawings; liaised with CNC manufacturers, 3D printing, welding, water-jet cutting, and others. Built and tested rigs and supported pre-production handover with factory teams.
Design Engineer at Freelance
January 1, 2019 - January 1, 2019
Designed prototype electronics housing for Furnace's Camcon Intelligent Valve Technology engine project; produced CAD and manufacturing data for Lady Gaga garments at Studio XO; assembled life-size prop cannons for WarHorse at The Product Works.
Design Engineer at Loowatt
November 1, 2012 - November 1, 2012
Designed prototype mechanisms for the waterless toilet system, managed production, and liaised with manufacturers to create CNC-bent sheet metal parts and reinforced silicone belts with integrated timing belts. Spent five weeks in Madagascar installing the pilot scheme.
Engineer at Airbus UK
September 1, 2009 - September 1, 2009
Wing structure CAD; studied uncontained engine rotor failure to determine damage and appropriate internal structures and fuel-tank sizing. Assessed space around leading/trailing edges for actuators with respect to required clearances. Earned a patent reward for bonded feet attaching internal ribs to skins. Completed an accelerated apprenticeship with real-world placements, including Heathrow/Virgin Atlantic metrics tracking.
