    uniE621 Where's The Ace?
'Where's The Ace' is a traditional ink-on-paper illustration. Based on personal experiences with being an asexual person and a member of the ever-diverse LGBTQIA+ community, this illustration aims to capture the atmosphere of a Maltese Pride parade. Growing up asexual, I had to accept that I was part of a community that only forms 1% of the global population. This isolation also gets heightened by the fact that I live in a country as small as Malta. Thankfully, our progressive queer rights allow me the opportunity to live amongst and be part of a supportive and loving community. This said community is oftentimes heavily associated with bright colours, such as those that form part of the rainbow. All of these colours, however, have been removed from this illustration, the only one remaining being a single person who is illustrated in purple. This is the colour that represents asexuality. I invite you all to explore the hidden details within this illustration in a Where's Wally-inspired composition, all the while asking you to find - you guessed it - the ace! uniE621 Sweeney Todd
I started working on this illustration towards the beginning of 2022 when visiting my relatives in London. I've always been obsessed with that place, hence why I find myself heading back there every year, so I knew I needed to find some way of memorializing my love for its culture and history. Me being the horror and theatre fanatic that I am, decided to devote this piece to one of my favourite penny dreadfuls... the tale of Sweeney Todd. I can't put into words the amount of gratitude I have towards the Malta Community of Illustrators for selecting this work to be featured in their Malta Illustration Annual! The amount of imposter syndrome I had to deal with that year was downright unbearable, especially when it came to working on developing this illustration for an assignment. It's so humbling to know that even when you find yourself doubting your own worth, there will always be others to remind you that you're on the right track.
