Lauren Hassell is an award-winning writer and director from the Gold Coast, Australia. She specialises in tales of adventure, environmentalism, feminism and philosophy through fantasy storyscapes. Passionate about exploring philosophical truths through the lens of fiction, Lauren’s tales range from whimsical adventure to dark fantasy and beyond. She approaches storytelling with a battleworn sense of wonder, that - despite everything - there is hope for us yet. Lauren creates well-crafted, thought-provoking stories that entertain and challenge tradition, drawing from her experience as a feminist, an Australian, and a human in a strange and ever-changing world. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Film and Television with a major in screenwriting. Her latest short film ‘The Druid Prophecy’, which she wrote and directed, screened at the Bond University Centrescreen Awards Ceremony (2019) and won ‘Best Overall Film’, ‘Best Screenplay’, ‘Best Director’, ‘Best Cinematography’, ‘Best Actress’ and ‘Best Sound’. She has worked professionally in the film and television industry in the Assistant Director and Art Departments since 2019. During this time, she has continued refining her writing craft and is currently developing the script for her next short film, ‘Black Compass’.
