Ong Lin Wei (b. 2001) is a Singaporean composer and multi-instrumentalist whose work spans contemporary classical, ethnic, and cross-cultural traditions. He began violin studies at the age of four under Mr. Koh Kah Eng and Ms. Lynnette Seah, later studying piano with Dr. John Sharpley. Following national service, he pursued composition at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), studying with Dr. Zechariah Goh, and received additional training in oboe from Mr. Joost Flach and conducting from Mr. Jax Ang. An active performer and collaborator, Lin Wei has worked with ensembles including the Asian Cultural Symphony Orchestra, Orkestra Melayu Singapura, Brisbane Chamber Choir, and is currently an erhu player with Artusik. His orchestral work Romance in B minor and Battle of Bukit Chandu were premiered at the Victoria Concert Hall, while Rhythm of Unity was premiered by The Straits Ensemble at Stamford Arts Centre. His work has received recognition including First Prize at the Classical Stars International Competition. Lin Wei was commissioned by Cultural Medallion recipient Ms. Lynnette Seah to compose Joget Seri Malam for herself and pianist Sir Stephen Hough, and his Suite 1965 was premiered at the reopening of a major Singapore community arts venue. He assisted in orchestrating Charge Forward for the BYD Seal 6 launch, where he also served in front-of-house and production support roles. He served as music editor for the feature film A Good Fortune. In addition to composition, Lin Wei has served as Guest Liaison for the Singapore International Soundcheck Festival, hosting distinguished international guests including Conrad Pope and Ángel Vélez. He continues to explore new musical languages through orchestral writing, cross-cultural collaboration, and international projects.

    “A Tribute to Mum” is a heartfelt medley that blends the beloved Mandarin song “Mama Hao” with the Indonesian classic “Kasih Ibu,” celebrating the universal love of mothers across cultures. The arrangement moves from tender lyricism to rich symphonic textures, drawing on both Chinese and Indonesian musical elements to create a moving, cross-cultural tribute filled with nostalgia and warmth.
