Throughout my education, I developed a strong interest in language and communication. As a result, my courses were heavily influenced by this field. During my undergraduate studies, I completed courses such as Microanalysis in Communication, and Bilingualism & Cognition. My final year thesis also focused on language (specifically bilingualism). I have continued to expand on this interest during my master’s degree by opting for courses such as Communication and Influence, a minor research project focusing on the influence of cues on reduced speech perception and research proposals centered around speech perception. My relevant research experience includes working as a Research Assistant in a Speech and Language Lab, focusing on communication and voice perception among people who stutter. Through my participation in multiple research projects, I gained valuable skills I would not have been able to acquire through my degree alone - I learned how to use software programs such as Praat, Audacity, and Spyder IDE and gained hands-on experience working with annotating and transcribing audio files, audiometers and fNIRS. As part of a research team, I gained authorship to two research papers on speech perception.
