This is an original song from my personal EP. Its co-produced with a producer/Jazz artist, a very good friend of mine. I performed and did the songwriting, mixing and mastering. This was a very versatile project, focusing specifically on the mixing side, as it was a bit complicated to balance due to the number of stems in the track. There are many elements throughout the song, so it was important to maintain consistency between the production of the elements and the vocals. It was a job that required precision and creativity in order to maintain the energy of the track, so that each element could be appreciated and stand out in its respective sections. As with all my work, the master was well thought out based on the mix, focusing on making mid/side corrections and adjustments and maintaining the punch and balance of the track, polishing the final details to achieve the desired sound and levels.

This song is a multitrack that I found online for free educational use. I mixed and mastered it to apply my personal approaches to both tasks without receiving direct instructions. I thought about my references and started from there. It's a very straightforward song but with impeccable production, especially the vocals, which made things much easier when it came to mixing. The entire first part of the song is creatively repetitive, but from 1:38 onwards (my favorite section) is where I had a lot of creative fun, with the background vocals and the slight change in the song's spatial feel.

In this project, I focused a lot on what the artist wanted, as he requested specific things in the ad-libs and small details. I had worked with the artist before, so I understood his tastes. I still had the pleasure of adding certain details to the mix that were entirely my own decisions, obviously letting the artist know and asking him if he liked them. After listening to the result, the artist decided whether he liked it or not. My masters are well tailored to the mix, meaning I leave the mix flawless so that I already have an idea of what to do in the master. Sharpness, clarity, good balance, punch, and volume are what I always look for in both jobs.

This project was very fun to do since I had creative freedom for the mix, of course sticking to the artist sound and vibe. The artist had some specific request but overall I sticked to the demo and added some extra details that enhanced the sound and song itself. I make sure to have a close conversation with the artist in order to deliver a great result, for this project it was very important for me to understand what was the artist looking for and how to achive that.
