Hi, I’m Maximiliano Contenti, a Uruguayan filmmaker born in 1984 in Montevideo. I taught myself cinema, making videos with my brother, and began taking workshops in different cinematography areas and animation from the age of 13. I graduated from the Uruguayan Film School (ECU) and earned scholarships to intensive programs such as the Berlinale Talent Campus (2004) and the Cannes Film Festival Film Program (2004). Over the years I directed numerous short films that were selected and awarded at international festivals, and in 2008 I directed my feature, the independent comedy-horror Muñeco Viviente V (Puppet Pal V).
In 2013 I founded Yukoh Films and continued to develop projects across cinema and documentary. My recent work includes the documentary Hélices (Blades, 2013), Neptunia (2015, co-director), The Last Matinee (Al Morir la Matinée, 2020) which helped open cinemas again during the pandemic, and the music documentary Hot Club of Montevideo (2023). I’ve also worked as a film and commercial director for Why Films in the Canary Islands (2021–2022), and I’m currently developing new projects like The Channeling and Webmasters with Yukoh Films, while living between Spain and Uruguay.
