paper EduKiwiSchool Checkout Redesign - Reducing Friction & Improving Conversion

When I joined EduKiwi School, one of the biggest issues hiding in plain sight was the checkout flow. Users arrived with clear intent… and then dropped off within seconds. Others clicked the CTA repeatedly without getting any feedback. A simple purchase process was turning into frustration.

I spent a week digging into Microsoft Clarity recordings, behavioral patterns, and user journeys. What I kept seeing was the same story: unclear structure, missing validation, and no visible value signals. Even small gaps in hierarchy were enough to break trust.

Together with the development team, I redesigned the entire checkout experience while working inside tight constraints — no design system, legacy components, and fragile backend logic. I rebuilt the flow using Untitled UI as a foundation and adapted it to EduKiwi School’s guidelines.

The biggest win came from introducing a persistent Summary Rail: totals, discounts, and the CTA became visible at all times. This removed the mental gymnastics users had to do and restored confidence instantly. I also reorganized the form layout, clarified mandatory fields, improved spacing, and brought consistency to the entire structure.

The result was a smoother, predictable checkout that removed hesitation and reduced friction. Qualitatively, we saw fewer rage-click loops, fewer instant abandons, and more successful voucher usage — all strong indicators that the flow now worked with users, not against them.

This project became the foundation for how I now approach fast UX problem-solving: target the friction first, surface value clearly, and make the interface behave in a way users can trust.
