Daniel Noreña Burgos (July 10, 1991) is a Mexican filmmaker, photographer, editor, and visual artist. He was born in Mexico City and discovered his passion for imagery at the Escuela Activa de Fotografía in 2006. He studied five semesters of English Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of UNAM and was part of the first graduating class of the Cinematography program at the Escuela Superior de Cine, becoming its first graduate. He passed his professional exam with honors. Additionally, he completed a series of advanced courses at the same school with award-winning directors such as Carlos Reygadas and Víctor Gaviria. His documentary Crónicas del Subsuelo won the Best Film Award at the Mexico City Independent Film Festival in 2021. This documentary has also been featured in various national and international festivals, including the Experimental Film Festival of Bogotá, KINOLIKBEZ (Russia), Shorts México, and the Barrio Film Festival in Mexico City. In 2021, Daniel Noreña directed, wrote, and edited his thesis short film titled Sobre Jacarandas. He also directed, shot, and edited an audiovisual piece commemorating the 500th anniversary of the fall of Tenochtitlan, titled La región del ruido, in collaboration with Arturo Hernández Alcázar and Juan Pablo Villegas. This project was produced by the National System of Creators, the Tlatelolco Biennial, the Tlatelolco Cultural University Center, and the Escuela Superior de Cine. The piece was screened in Berlin in July 2024. He also directed a documentary about the Tlatelolco Biennial. In 2022 and 2023, he co-directed a documentary criticizing public health policies titled El Peor de los Mundos. This project was produced by El Poder del Consumidor and premiered on YouTube in 2023. In June 2024, he worked as a still photographer and created the making-of for the film Aquí Hay Dragones by Iria Gómez Concheiro.
