Paolo Coletta (Naples, August 15, 1978) is an Italian composer, sound designer, and music producer known for his work in film, theater, and opera.
Education and Early Career
Paolo began his studies in piano and violin, and pursued a degree in Philosophy and Musicology at the University of Naples Federico II. Concurrently, he studied Harmony, Theory, Musical Analysis, and Music History at the conservatories of Naples and Salerno.
Film Contributions
Paolo has made significant contributions to numerous short and medium-length films, winning prestigious awards for best soundtrack, including for “127 Beats” (2005) and “Dark Angels” (2006). In 2023, he composed the original score for “The Others,” directed by Daniele Salvo, based on the novel by Michele Prisco. His work in film showcases his ability to create evocative soundscapes that enhance the narrative.
Musical and Theatrical Works
Paolo made his operatic debut in 2009 with the ballet “Naples Jumps and Flies,” choreographed by Amedeo Amodio. He has served as an orchestrator and artistic producer, overseeing the production of “French Girl,” an upcoming album of famous Neapolitan classical songs translated into French, performed by Italo-Canadian singer Daniela Fiorentino.
On December 12, 2015, he premiered his first lyric opera, “The Song of Triumphant Love,” commissioned by the Fondazione Teatro Coccia and based on the short story by Ivan S. Turgenev. In 2016, he composed and conducted the original music and choir for Seneca’s “Phaedra,” for the 52nd cycle of performances at the INDA Greek Theater in Syracuse. He also directed a production of Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” at the Gran Teatro de La Habana, where he was honored in the "Libro de Honor”.
