Work Experience

Sr. Machine Learning Developer at NAVBLUE, an Airbus company
August 1, 2022 - Present
Implementation of machine learning techniques across NAVBLUE’s portfolio. Led 2+ years of fine-tuning LLMs to reproduce human annotations, reducing document processing from 20–30 minutes to 2 seconds. Implemented Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) by combining embeddings, index search, and prompt engineering to extract data beyond the scope of human annotators. Deployed models on AWS SageMaker and Bedrock. Built classical ML solutions for structured data, including anomaly detection on multi-dimensional flight data and probabilistic geospatial modeling. As of 2025, nominated Technical Leader to guide strategy and tool choices. Responsible for data organization, transformation, analysis, and visualization.
Visiting Scholar at University of Waterloo
August 1, 2021 - July 1, 2022
Computer vision and machine learning researcher. Fine-tuned Vision Transformer (ViT) models for image segmentation of mineral-extraction videos. Implemented preprocessing and postprocessing for object detection in a machine-vision/robotics project.
Co-founder at VisAI
July 1, 2019 - May 1, 2022
Co-founded a computer-vision startup delivering B2B solutions. Led real-time tools for face detection/recognition, industrial object counting, and poultry monitoring. Edge deployments on NVIDIA Jetson and Raspberry Pi + Google Coral.
Professor at Federal University of Technology – Paraná
February 1, 2015 - July 1, 2022
Taught courses in Computer Engineering and related programs (Image Processing, Computer Graphics, Algorithms, Software Testing). Supervised numerous undergraduate projects in ML, CV, and image processing (sports analytics, background subtraction, pedestrian tracking, leaf disease identification, face recognition). Served as Head of the Computer Engineering program (2016–2019).
Postdoctoral Research Fellow at McMaster University
September 1, 2013 - August 1, 2014
Developed tools for computer-aided image retrieval of CTs: data preprocessing and transformation; CT image segmentation and feature extraction to compute case similarities; designed ranking evaluation metrics.

Education

PhD in Computer Science (with honours) at Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul
