I connected with the owner of a product design company who "wanted to do a podcast". I think initially he simply wanted an interview style show about product design, but I pitched him a concept he LOVED. The idea was to create something that went beyond the usual chat podcast, and created a true piece of entertainment. It was fairly simple, a podcast about the history of everyday objects like the tin opener, the backpack, washing machine and toaster. It gave people some genuine interest to click "play", fire their curiosity and learn something about an object they might use everyday, but have no real idea about how it came to be. I brought in an external voice to the company to host the entire show, so that it wasn't a hard sell from the owner. However, the owner of the company was used in the podcast to talk about the story and give their thoughts on the object's development. We then also created another segment about the future of the object, which then gave the owner an opportunity to network with people from the industry. This production is a mix of narrative and interview style podcasts. With the story element at the beginning requiring a lot of production work with sound effects (some of which I had to make) and music to keep the pace and feel up, as well as the traditional interview editing. music master
