  • Guides the production of stories and programming from conception to completion, including structuring stories and interviews, studio direction, and post-production editing.
  • Monitors the news cycle to help make story selections alongside the team, focusing on finding the best angle on the big news stories of the day in sophisticated, distinctive ways
  • Strengthens stories in the post-production editing process by paying close attention to clarity, sequencing, pacing, scoring
  • Is willing to pivot when something isn’t working, and developing and executing new plans
  • Develops ongoing relationships with reporters and editors across the newsroom to identify and grow new voices for audio first stories.
  • Provides editorial feedback to producers and helps guide their growth in collaboration with the audio leadership team
  • Works with leadership and team to coordinate calendars & workflows that align to the editorial agenda for the day
  • Coaches New York Times reporters and editors without audio experience
  • Uses editorial judgment that’s reflective of Times mission and principles

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ experience in audio production.
  • 3+ years of story editing experience.
  • Daily news experience and a passion for daily news.
  • Experience in building and editing narratives in audio.
  • Experience coaching a host.
  • Fluency in audio editing, ideally using Pro Tools.
  • Knowledge across multiple disciplines such as politics, business, science, etc.
  • Experience in a deadline-driven environment.
