Description:

The Communication Coordinator (Writer) under the supervision of the Editorial Director will need excellent writing, verbal, copy, editing and proofreading skills with the ability to meet deadlines. Editorial staff produce resident and employee publications and strategic information campaigns that promote Authority initiatives; support Client’s mission and brand message; and actively engage employees, Client residents, community partners and advocates, and the general public. The Editorial Team relies upon this position to provide administrative and creative support for editorial projects.

Daily Duties/Tasks:

  • Develop articles for Client’s online publications, including The Client Journal, ClientNow, and Connect.
  • Develop communications to all stakeholders regarding the development of the NYC Public Housing Preservation Trust.
  • Develop content related to Client’s compliance with the HUD agreement/Transformation Plan dedicated to improving residents’ quality of life and ensuring the agency’s organizational success.
  • Create and develop communication plans for Client departments.
  • Prepare talking points to be used for press conferences, media inquiries, and Client events.
  • Develop content for social media and special projects such as ad hoc reports, publications and scripts, and other projects.
  • Other writing assignments as needed, including drafting remarks, letters, op-eds, robocalls, press statements, fact sheets/FAQs, flyers, and City Council testimony.
  • Propose story ideas and participate in editorial planning meetings.
  • Track various departmental activities as required.
  • Participate in intra- and inter-departmental staff meetings.
  • General administrative functions and communications duties, as assigned.

Skills and Experience:

  • Excellent verbal, writing, copyediting, and proofreading skills
  • Professional demeanor and understanding of strict deadlines
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with associates and the public
  • Excellent attention to detail, a fast learner, and a strong problem solver as well as strong follow-up skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated record as a self-starter and team-player with a positive attitude and “can do” spirit
  • Some experience or interest in journalism, preferably in a media outlet, government, or nonprofit organizations
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet search engines
  • Proficient in online content management
  • Ability to assimilate and analyze data

Qualification Requirements:

  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college; or
  2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community-centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above.

Salary:

$30.00 - $45.00 per hour
