Job Description

Underknown is a creator-led media company that focuses on high-quality storytelling, producing long-form content for YouTube and distributing it across multiple platforms worldwide. The company operates over 100 channels, reaching 70 million monthly active viewers, with content that spans science, technology, and the natural world. Underknown also runs the Popular Science streaming TV channel, featuring top creators in the science and tech vertical.

We are currently seeking an experienced video editor to enhance our YouTube videos. The role involves creating video essays and documentary-style videos with various formats, including field reporting, interviews, and experiments. The position is only open to permanent residents in Ontario, Canada.

Requirements

• Passionate about science and naturally curious

• A strong reel that reflects video editing skills

• Ability to create hooks and story arcs with a focus on video retention

• Strong experience in documentary style and YouTube editing

• Proven track record of editing breakout YouTube videos (examples required)

• A keen eye for creative content and the ability to create cinematic videos

• Natural storytelling ability with a visual approach

• Receptive to feedback and clear communication skills

• Excellent time-management skills and the ability to prioritize

• Interest in space and sci-fi

• Located in Ontario, Canada

Qualifications You Bring

• Expert knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects

• Experience producing documentary and explainer videos for social media

• Knowledge of After Effects, including tools like Element3D, VC Orb, Mocha

• Ability to efficiently work remotely without direct supervision

• Effective communication skills and teamwork capabilities

• Ability to story edit real-life footage effectively

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Showrunner and VFX team to create engaging content for YouTube

• Produce rough cuts, graphic elements, sound design, color correction, and finalize projects

• Make creative editing decisions to resonate with audiences

• Develop Essential Graphics and explainer graphics in Adobe After Effects

• Work with a surplus of filmed footage to create engaging segments

• Solve creative and technical problems

• Implement feedback from the Showrunner
