Job Description

Role: Senior 2D Animator

Project Type: Small-scale project on a freelance/contract basis

Mandate: Approximately 1–2 minutes of animation, plus character animation cycles.

Timeline: Spring 2025 (exact deadlines negotiable)

Location: Remote or based in Montreal

We’re the team behind the Montreal International Film Festival, and we’re looking for a Senior 2D Animator to bring our brand-new (and still secret!) mascot to life in a short cinematic origin story. This will be a signature piece for the festival, character-driven, emotionally rich, and made to connect with audiences on screens big and small.

Requirements

• Senior-level experience in 2D character animation (portfolio or reel required).

• Strong skills in timing, emotion, and expressive visual storytelling.

• Ability to work independently while collaborating openly.

• A visual style with charm, warmth, and cinematic flair.

• Experience in branded or narrative animation is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Animate a 1–2 minute short based on a developed script (storyboard in progress, we’d love your input).

• Create animation cycles (walk, comedic beats, expressions) for ongoing marketing use.

• Bring personality and heart to a non-verbal character.

• Collaborate with the creative direction team to craft a unique and memorable visual identity.

• Shape the pacing and rhythm in harmony with sound design and music.
