Hi, I’m Rei Ramirez — I’m a Cuban-American artist based out of Miami, FL, and these days I’m working as a full time artist after spending 25 years in graphic design.
My path into art was a bit unconventional. I’m self-taught for the most part, with very little formal art training — the one exception was a painting elective I took at in college while I was pursuing my degree in Graphic Design, which I completed back in 2003. Design was actually my first career, and I built two decades of experience in print and web work before art took over as my main focus. The real turning point came in 2007, when I started doing live art at local events around Miami and got some really positive recognition. That gave me the confidence to keep pushing further, and in 2013 I joined Yo Space Studios in Little Haiti, right near the famous Wynwood arts district, which put me right in the middle of Miami’s creative scene.
As far as what I create — I work across a lot of mediums. Pen and ink, pencil, oil and acrylic painting, digital art, canvas work, airbrush, portraiture, illustration, murals, and spray paint are all part of my toolkit.
My work reflects people, nature, typography and culture, and more broadly I draw inspiration from the concrete landscape of South Florida’s urban wetlands, human nature, the feminine mysticism.
On the services side, I offer, live painting events, canvas commissions, workshops, and custom designs, on top of murals — both residential and corporate. I’ve done everything from apartment wall murals, to live canvas painting at corporate charity events, to a large murals for a corporate tech conference. I also do socially-driven work; I’m proud to have partnered with numerous organizations that creates murals and exhibitions to bond communities and help environment.
What I think sets me apart is the combination of a design background with an artist’s instinct — I can walk a client through numerous digital proposals before I even pick up a brush, so what gets executed matches what they envisioned, but I also bring the responsiveness and communication of someone who’s spent a career working with clients.
What I’m most proud of, though, goes beyond the work itself — it’s the travel and the people. Getting to take my art to different cities and countries, painting in new environments, and meeting the people I meet along the way is honestly one of my greatest achievements. Every trip changes how I see color, culture, and community, and a lot of it ends up feeding back into the work itself. The connections I’ve made — fellow artists, collectors, curators, everyday people who stop to watch a mural come together.
If there’s one thing I want people to know about my brand, it’s that it’s rooted in following your bliss: connecting with the natural environment and helping the cause, always changing and elevating my techniques, exploring the human subconscious, and creating work that connects with people wherever I go.
