I was born in Chicago on July 21, 1952, and my early years included moving to St. Louis and diving into reading, science, and music. I created a special radio program to encourage students to read, earned a citywide science fair mention, and pursued education through Divoll Elementary, Vashon High School, Hirsch High School, Loop Junior College, and Roosevelt University College of Music, focusing on guitar, voice, and arranging along the way. My journey has taken me from school stages to professional ensembles, always grounded in curiosity and collaboration.
After serving as a combat medic and NEO officer in the Army, I returned to Chicago to continue my studies and to work as a musician, arranger, and bandleader. I’ve performed with Cab Calloway, Gladys Knight, Nancy Wilson, The Spinners, and The Red Saunders Orchestra, and I led the Morris Ellis Orchestra and Mill Street Depot Band, shaping soundscapes and mentoring fellow musicians across venues and tours.
