Hi, I’m Miguel Villalobos, a multidisciplinary artist blending illustration, photography, sculpture, and fashion. Born in Venezuela and now based in Brooklyn, I studied at the Instituto de Diseño de Caracas and was honored with a mention in the Pedro Leon Zapata Award for journalistic illustration before moving to New York in 1997. Since then I’ve collaborated on film, music, and fashion projects — from visual consulting on Hedwig and the Angry Inch to art direction for Laurie Anderson’s Life on a String — and I’ve built a practice that includes publishing, gallery installations, and my own design labels, 1-100 and Tabor & Villalobos. Today I continue teaching at Parsons, creating one-of-a-kind pieces, and expanding my Tabor & Villalobos collection, with works that blur the line between art, fashion, and sculpture. I’m grateful for the collaborations with Cristina Grajales Gallery, Zaldy, and Diane Pernet, and for the opportunity to share my process through posters, installations, and experimental apparel.
