This image was captured while on assignment for Alamy at professional boxing event at the Brighton Centre. This cruiserweight boxing bout featured cruiserweight contest between Lucas Roehrig vs Brice Clavier where the each attending photographer is provided with a static position, having to rely on the ambient light (no flash). The images had to be given to the agency on a rapid turn around for press release
uniE621 Fire Tricksters On Brighton Beach
Taking advantage of the Spring low tide on Brighton Beach, when the tide is low enough to the sand. Brighton Beach is generally a pebble beach and only goes out to where the sand eventually shows during low neap tides. I have been collaborating with some local and very talented fire artists in Brighton who gather to practise their skills. We wanted not only to produce some great profile images for these artists, but also some wonderful art. The approach I made was to produce some long exposure shots, between 0.5 and 1 second in length displaying the action of the flames at their dramatic best and making use of the low tide reflection, where pools of water had been left behind during the stunning sunset in the evening. Also, the artist had to consider fire tricks being captured when their bodies were as static as possible with the dragon staffs they were practicing with at full movement to avoid body blur in the finished image. A dragon staff is a staff that has four spokes at each end with flaming heads at each end to produce a vibrant visual effect. We also were time restricted by the returning tide and the availability of the changing light of the sunset. This also required some editing on Photoshop to enhance and TOPAZ to sharpen the final images. photo
