Hi, I’m Dawit Legesse Birhanu, a Junior Editor at Rusty Town Films (RTF). I began my filmmaking journey about four years ago after finishing preparatory school at Higher 23. I taught myself cinematography basics at RTF and grew my editing craft under the mentorship of Henok Legesse Birhanu. One of my early highlights was producing eight videos and editing four for the ZENDRO music festival promo, collaborating with EDM producer Endegena Mulu. That experience sharpened my technical skills and sparked my creativity.
Later, I expanded into documentary and television work as an Assistant Editor on Katanga Nation, which premiered at IDFA in 2022, giving me valuable international exposure. I served as DIT and Assistant Editor on Gera Kegn Season 1 for ETV, then as an Assistant Editor on Nesrochu, a national feature by Tamirat Mekonnen. I also edited the second season of Gera Kegn for ETV and the documentary ROCKAHARI. Each project has taught me new editing approaches and a deeper appreciation for storytelling through image and rhythm. I’m excited to keep growing and contributing to impactful projects in new environments.
