I was very dedicated to my studies in University and as a result I feel I got as much as I possibly could have out of my education. Starting in the Fine Arts program gave me an understanding of the principles of drawing and composition as well as teaching me the value of planning before jumping into a project. My switch to Visual Communication Design allowed for a pause in creation to learn to fundamentals of colour, typography, layout, and the history of graphic design whilst also learning the appropriate software to make it possible to bring my vision, and vision of my clientele, to life. My education also exposed me to different disciplines of design such as Information Design, User Experience Design, Web Design, and Service Design; although Visual Communications or Graphic Design remains my passion I was able to take elements from each of these practices and apply them to my own. Examples of this would be continuing research and asking for feedback throughout the design process, prioritizing accessibility, and understanding that design is inherently biased and the designers responsibility in the communication of information.
