Postdoctoral Scientist at Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (CIIM)

January 1, 2024 - Present

Identified key transcriptional regulators, genes, and pathways associated with healthy and pathological aging across five major immune cell types using large-scale single-cell datasets (>5 million cells from ~2,000 donors) via gene regulatory network inference and multi-modal analysis. Applied machine learning models to screen hundreds of compounds and identified 25 small molecules with potential rejuvenating effects, with the most potent candidate validated in wet lab.

Led a team of four ML engineers to develop a live framework for GRN inference benchmarking. Curated perturbation datasets totaling over 30 million single-cell expressions, designed metrics to evaluate GRN inference, and integrated over 10 GRN inference pipelines into a reproducible framework using Docker, Viash, and Nextflow. Built a Python workflow for time-series proteomics to identify key target proteins responsive to magnesium treatment via differential expression and GRN analysis. Awarded 1st place Judge Award ($10,000) in the 2023 Open Problems: Single Cell Perturbation Competition and authored a comprehensive design report for a VAE.
