Work Experience

Freelance Producer at Self-Employed / Freelance
January 1, 2012 - Present
In 12 years as a freelance producer, I have worked on a variety of programmes in a variety of producing roles. As a location producer/director I have filmed all over the UK and Europe. I have worked on live OBs for the BBC’s events coverage. As an edit producer, I’ve got hands on with edit software to speed up the process of cutting programmes with an editor. As a Series Producer, I’ve enjoyed being the senior member of the team to supervise more junior colleagues and pass on my knowledge and skills - all while also making great output. During the initial Covid lockdown, I used my experience to devise ways of continuing to create programmes remotely - techniques that I then passed on to other productions.
Producer/Director at BBC
January 1, 2001 - January 1, 2012
Responsible for countless hours of broadcast TV. I worked on some of the BBC’s biggest brands - Country File, Top Gear, Gardeners’ World and even BBC News’ election coverage. I have worked with famous faces and new talent alike. With my team, I was expected to create the best programmes possible on time, within budget and adhering to all editorial guidelines and health and safety requirements.
Researcher at BBC
January 1, 1998 - January 1, 2001
After an initial development role, I moved into production on BBC daytime shows. These were a mix of live and pre-recorded/edited programmes. Researching covered a wide array of tasks from finding and working with contributors to self-shooting and editing sequences/programme inserts. In daytime, budgets were low and teams small so it required multi-skilling and most projects were fast turnaround so it required quick thinking whilst remaining calm under pressure.
Sport Producer & Tech Op at Hallam FM
January 1, 1993 - January 1, 1998
Quickly transitioning from work experience into a paid casual/freelance role, I became the studio manager and producer for all live sports output. Driving the mixing desk and dealing with technical issues to keep the show on air, we had input from reporters/commentators at up to 6 live football games plus additional coverage from other local and national sports. An adrenaline-fuelled and fast-paced introduction to live output. I also produced and edited news and sport packages for bulletins and programmes.
