Sign in: https://www.twine.net/signup_ My multicultural background being Vietnamese, having grown up in Norway and now studying in Dublin has exposed me to various film genres, styles and movements. This experience has encouraged me to maintain a multifaceted and meticulous approach to assessing films that prioritises the meanings behind cinematic choices over my own personal taste. I am also fascinated with the social and cultural significance of film, motivating my videography work with charities like the Simon Community and Run for Palestine as well as my analytical review writing with University Times and Trinity Film Review. My strong analytical and written communication skills have allowed me to achieve notable accolades in my journalism career. In May 2024, I won second place for an essay examining the western film genre at Norway’s National Young Researchers Competition and in April 2026, I received Trinity’s prestigious Foundation Scholarship, through which I became the first scholar in the history of the Film Single Honours programme. My understanding and passion for film manifests further in my practical work. Trinity’s film society funded the production of a ten-minute short film that I wrote, directed and edited titled Process. It premiered and won Best Screenplay at the 2026 Dublin University Film Festival. As such, I am drawn to the prospect of working alongside those who share my passion for media journalism, programming and creation. This has been the driving force behind my work being on the Irish Film Institute Youth Panel, which convenes regularly to host screenings. We recently hosted a Q and A with Irish Classification Office Director Ciaran Kissane, which I had to prepare questions and an introductory speech for. Through this, I honed my event management skills. I have engaged with these skills further in my active involvement with Europe’s largest and most active drama society Trinity Players, of which I am on the committee for as the Productions Officer. This role has led me to gain experience in festival programming and curation. I played a crucial role in organising Summerfest 2026, an annual week-long campus-wide theatre festival that is renowned for attracting the attention of tourists and prospective students.
