I'm Hassan Al-Hayawi, a neuroscience-focused ML researcher based in London, Ontario. I earned my MSc in Cognitive, Developmental and Brain Sciences at the University of Western Ontario, where I explored machine learning approaches to prognosis after acute brain injury using EEG complexity analyses and naturalistic narrative stimuli. My work sits at the intersection of neuroimaging, signal processing, and predictive modeling. Currently I collaborate with hospitals and academic laboratories to develop end-to-end ML pipelines for MRI, EEG/fNIRS data, and histology image analysis. I enjoy translating complex neuroscience data into actionable insights, and I’m passionate about building robust, scalable ML workflows and contributing to interdisciplinary research that advances patient care.

Work Experience

Technical AI Researcher at M31 AI
September 1, 2025 - February 1, 2026
Designed and executed large-scale GPU-accelerated experiments on HPC infrastructure. Developed medical imaging ML workflows and deep learning architectures for 3D MRI analysis. Collaborated on predicting AVM recurrence in pediatric patients as part of a collaboration with SickKids Hospital.
Machine Learning Research Assistant at The Haeryfar Lab
May 1, 2025 - September 1, 2025
Implemented and refined a transfer-learning–based convolutional neural network to automate detection and scoring of liver inflammation and fibrosis in histology slides from a preclinical mouse model; leveraged automated patch-based classification to replace labor-intensive manual scoring, increasing speed and consistency in histopathologic evaluation.
Research Analyst at LHSC / London Health Sciences Centre
September 1, 2022 - December 31, 2024
Collected, organized, and analyzed complex neuroimaging datasets to create predictive models. Developed and implemented end-to-end ML pipelines, optimized to improve data-driven insights in the ICU.
Data Analyst at The Owen Lab
October 1, 2021 - August 31, 2022
Preprocessed and analyzed large high-dimensional datasets with advanced techniques for noise reduction, artifact removal, signal enhancement, statistical testing, optimization algorithms, feature extraction, and data visualization. Utilized PCA for dimensionality reduction and ICA to eliminate artifacts and isolate meaningful patterns in the data.
