I am Nazanin Sepandram, born in Tehran, Iran in 1981, and I currently live in Toronto, Canada. My artistic practice blends illustration and painting through mixed media on canvas to highlight cultural and traditional elements that influence social behavior. My projects—Mother Land, Immigration, Eve and Here I am—embody how cultural roots can bring peace and resilience to nations, and how immigration can foster harmony across borders.
I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Illustration in 2014 and have participated in more than ten solo and group exhibitions worldwide, including Mohtasham Award, Niavaran Cultural Center Public Gallery (Tehran, 2014), a solo exhibition Mother Land at Touba Gallery-Time Museum (Tehran, 2015), the 2nd international exhibition by Ziya Art Center through Neekon Festival at De Young Museum (San Francisco, 2015), and the group show ‘A World at Peace’ at Queen Gallery (Toronto, 2016). I immigrated to Canada in 2016 and now live in Toronto; this multicultural environment informs my focus on clothing and fabric as carriers of cultural motifs. In the coronavirus era I strive to find beauty in mundane objects and everyday routines, using simple media to express it.
