I am Bernadette Vivuya, a visual journalist and filmmaker from Goma in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. I focus on human rights, environment, and the exploitation of natural resources, with a particular interest in stories that reveal the resilience of people living in conflict-affected regions.
Through my work I aim to showcase Congo as I see it—through Congolese symbols, traditions, and cultural references—while speaking truth to power and highlighting the energy of ordinary citizens building a new Congo. I have been recognized with the Michael Elliott Prize for Journalism (2021) and the Best Documentary award at the Kinshasa International Film Festival, among others.
