Mike Williams started CalTex Productions as a means to develop several television and movie ideas. In 2013, Mr. Williams retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation where he was a Supervisory Intelligence Analyst specializing in national security affairs and organized crime matters. He worked closely with Border Patrol and Customs agents as part of joint task forces in the U.S. and Iraq. Prior to his service with the FBI, Mr. Williams served as a Program Analyst with the Navy Special Warfare Command in Coronado, California as it responded to the terrorist attacks on 9/11/2001. Before joining the federal civil service, Mr. Williams was a Policy Analyst with the San Diego City Council. While serving with the City Council, he became familiar with law enforcement and border issues. Seeing that there was no entertainment industry focus on the multi-faceted border issues, he developed the idea for a television show about the United States Border Patrol which was the genesis of Calexico. Mr. Williams retired from the U.S. Navy in 1993, after twenty years of service as a Naval Intelligence Officer. His assignments included special operations, human source collection, and geopolitical and terrorism analysis. Other assignments included amphibious squadron staff, Defense Intelligence Agency, and aviation squadrons deployed aboard aircraft carriers. Commander Williams received the Bronze Star and Combat Action Ribbon for service during the first Gulf War.
