Andre Jones is a multi-disciplinary artist and native of Philadelphia, PA. A life long visual artist, he was inspired by comics as early as age 5, when he started to draw. As he grew older, Andre became an art major at Overbrook High School in Philadelphia. He majored in visual communications at the Art Institute of Philadelphia from which he graduated in 1990. From there he worked as a muralist for the city of Philadelphia’s Anti-Graffiti Network, (now known as the Mural Arts Program). He painted many murals and graphic projects while working there. He then went to Cheyney and used his artistic talents within the design concentration in their theater major. Designing for the stage, acting and learning about lighting for the stage were all tools Andre would add to his toolkit, by the time he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Cheyney in 1995. After graduation, Andre worked for Bushfire Theater as a scene designer, as well as a lighting tech at McManus Enterprises and as a Teaching Artist for various theaters around Philadelphia. He then went back to school to earn his Master of Fine Arts at Temple University in 2011. He graduated from Temple in 2016 and currently works for Philadelphia Young Playwrights in the role of Associate Director of Education and Programming. Along with writing plays, screenplays and arts administration, Andre continues to do his artwork, painting on canvases, T-shirts and even producing his own comic book series. He is often quoted to say “Do what brings you joy, for when people witness your joy, you bring joy to others.” Mr. Jones wants to be guilty of bringing joy to others.

    Abraham & Baseball

A modern day everyman tells the Abraham and Issac ram in the bush story with a modern sports twist. This is using Christ’s teaching through parable to reach a modern generation.

    Centralia

In a a chaotic space, Centralia, PA, when life is threatened, water supply poisoned and survival has the few that are left scavenging, living in tents and perhaps hallucinating all bets are off. One man’s survival becomes twisted when a stranger appears at the campfire by his tent shot and asking to be lead back to the town the man narrowly escaped from.

    The Muse

Spoken Word Hip-hop track from my first poetry album entitled: Verbal Light. The call of the words haunts the mind of the poet until he and the poem spill out onto the track as one force. The connection of the poet to the word and his commentary on the music industry voice an indictment as well as offer an alternative to mindless babble.
