In these lines, I tried to convey my personal experience over the last 30 years as an Architecture student, a registered architect in Spain, a graphic designer, a university professor, and the founder of a construction company. These activities have shaped my teaching philosophy. As an Architecture student, I understood that physics and mathematics helped me prepare for my professional activity as they were centered around problem-solving. Traveling opened my mind, allowing me to appreciate traditional European and Islamic Architecture in southern Spain and the Middle East, Romanesque and Gothic Architecture in France, and Classic Renaissance and Baroque buildings in Italy. Working as a videogame designer was a highlight of my work experience. I could apply the drawing skills I gained from my Architecture degree and put them into practice in an environment where imagination was paramount. Combining my passion with work was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Opening my own architectural office was a great opportunity. It highlighted the practical and technical aspects of the profession and gave me insight into the life of an Architect. Since 2012, I have focused on teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels as a full-time faculty member in higher-education schools in four different countries. Over the years, I have gained considerable expertise from industry and University. My diverse background allows me to adapt my teaching strategy to many courses required in Architecture programs. I have taught Design, History, and Architectural Representation courses from the freshman to senior level. My philosophy as an educator is to provide students with a holistic-based education that combines a passion for drawing, experience in the construction industry, and research skills. Fostering collaboration and exchanging ideas between industry and Academia is essential to architectural education. Teaching is far more effective in enhancing hands-on activities because the students will actively learn and seek new knowledge rather than feel forced to learn. Drawing upon my academic background, I channel my passion for architectural illustration and graphic design into my creative practice. My work has been featured in solo exhibitions and art fairs in New York, Florence, Italy, and Marbella, Spain. In the 39th edition of the Architecture in Perspective (AIP 39) competition, hosted by the American Society of Architectural Illustrators (ASAI), I was honored with the Award of Excellence for their outstanding work. Recently, I started using AI in my art. Drawing by hand feels personal and shows the artist’s experiences. It carries human stories and connections. In contrast, AI can quickly generate many images and add effects such as atmosphere or dramatic zooms. Rather than replacing hand sketches, I found that using AI as a tool helps boost creativity by mixing human intuition with the speed of digital technology.
