I am Linda Steiner, a linguist specializing in Comparative Romance Linguistics and lexical semantics. I earned my PhD from the University of Zurich and spent time as a Visiting Scholar at the Sorbonne; I have led and contributed to research projects at the University of Zurich and the University of Bern, focusing on language history, dialectology, and onomastics.
Currently I serve as Deputy Director and Research Associate at the Institute of German Studies in Bern, working on the Family Name Atlas of German-speaking Switzerland, and I have collaborated with institutions such as the Swiss National Sound Archives and the St. Galler Namenbuch project. I am fluent in German, Italian, Spanish, French, English, and Romansh (Vallader), and I enjoy mentoring students and translating linguistic research into accessible knowledge.
