I was born in South Africa and migrated to Wales in 2000 to provide a better life for my family. I matriculated in Durban in 1991 with the equivalent of a GCSE in Art and aspired to work in a creative field. Life has a way of getting in the way, and apart from the odd sketch during particularly pointless meetings, I didn’t pick up a paintbrush again until 2005—a trip back home to Durban got me reaching for my old paint box.
By 2010 I’d joined the Sully Painting Group, showing my work in their annual exhibitions for many years before moving on to the Dinas Powys Art Group in 2022, which opened even more opportunities to share my art. Along the way, I’ve exhibited at Llandough Hospital, taken on commissions (including illustrations for three books), and in 2023 proudly carried off the D Hampton Jeffrey Challenge Cup at the Dinas Powys Village Show. Most recently, my work found a home on the walls of St Paul’s Community Centre in Penarth. I have a soft spot for painting moody skies and elephants, and I believe I’m an impressionist at heart with aspirations to be as unique and talented as artists like Van Gogh and Jacob Pierneef.
