I’m Leo Beker, a French-Argentine illustrator and author with over four decades of experience in comics, children’s publishing, and hand-drawn storytelling. Since beginning my career in 1979 with Le Journal de Ludo, I’ve illustrated extensively for young readers, including album series for Spirou, children’s fiction for Bayard Jeunesse and Flammarion, and religious-education titles for Éditions du Centurion. My best-known work, hardcover comic book Les Tribulations de Louison Cresson, ran for five volumes with Dupuis, from 1987 to 1995. In 2021 I used crowdfunding to relaunch the series, giving me direct, practical experience running a Kickstarter-style campaign from the creator’s side, including print production, reader communication, and marketing artwork. I’ve since continued presenting the series at comics festivals and through a solo exhibition of my original artwork.
From 1996 to 2004, I also produced wildlife illustrations for the French newspaper Ouest France, drawing animals in the children’s section.
My background spans traditional pen-and-ink drawing, painting, and 3D animation (including work on the movie The Magic Roundabout).
