Dear Twine Project Team,
I’m excited to apply for the Music Composer role for your Solarpunk game trailer. The combination of nostalgic RPG storytelling, futuristic technology and organic environments really stood out to me, particularly the idea of creating something that feels emotionally timeless without relying on traditional chiptune or retro game sounds.
My background is primarily in electronic music production, sound design and experimental composition. I work extensively in Ableton Live, using synthesis, sampling, processing and hardware to build detailed, evolving sound worlds. My own music draws heavily from industrial, ambient, techno and experimental music, and I’m particularly interested in creating atmosphere and narrative through texture, space and sound design rather than relying solely on conventional genre conventions.
A big part of my approach is combining organic and synthetic elements. I enjoy taking relatively simple musical ideas and developing them through synthesis, granular processing, effects, resampling and layering to create something that feels both familiar and unfamiliar. I think this would translate particularly well to the Solarpunk direction of the project — creating a world where technology and nature feel interconnected rather than opposed.
I also have experience working across recording, mixing and production, with a strong understanding of arrangement, stereo space, dynamics and creating movement within a track. My work often focuses on building tension and atmosphere, which I think could be particularly useful for a trailer that needs to move between tranquil, emotional and more action-oriented moments.
While my production background is rooted more heavily in electronic and experimental music than traditional orchestral composition, I see that as an opportunity to bring a different perspective to the soundtrack. I’d be interested in combining synth-based textures with more cinematic harmonic elements, organic instrumentation and evolving motifs to create something that captures the hopeful, futuristic and slightly rebellious spirit of the project.
I’m very comfortable working collaboratively, taking creative direction and developing ideas through feedback. I’d also be happy to contribute creatively to the musical direction and suggest ways the soundtrack could develop alongside the trailer’s narrative and visual pacing.
I’d love the opportunity to bring my production and sound-design background to the project and create something that feels cinematic, emotional and distinctly modern.
Thanks for considering my application.
Best,
Jake Donohue
