“The Thread” is a 2.5-minute post-apocalyptic film written, directed, and animated by Nathan Batiste using generative AI tools, including Midjourney (multi-style), Runway, Pika Labs, and Final Cut Pro, with AI voiceover from ElevenLabs.

The story imagines a future in which nuclear war has fractured global infrastructure, including the destruction of San Francisco and the original Meta headquarters. In this bleak new world, Meta has re-emerged in Austin, Texas — maintaining one critical platform: The Thread. A stripped-down social feed built for survival, not likes — just brief pulses of human contact.

This piece uses a blend of AI-generated stills, motion animation, glitch effects, and narrative VO to explore how one last connection — digital, emotional, and fragile — can still change everything.
