I’m Zoe, a UK-based freelance journalist with NCTJ training and a clear, confident speaking voice. I enjoy interviewing and filming directly to camera, and I’m a calm, authoritative communicator with strong diction and the ability to adapt quickly to last-minute changes — skills well-suited to live radio news reading and project-based broadcast work. My background is in producing news reports that are contemporaneous, engaging, and memorable, with a strong focus on people before places and the essential who, what, when, where, how and why. I understand how evergreen stories can support breaking news and help keep audiences engaged. I’m trained in legal compliance and ethical journalism, with a solid understanding of accuracy, privacy, and confidentiality - principles that matter just as much in broadcasting as they do in print. I bring a keen sense of humour, flexibility, and plenty of real-world experience, which means I stay steady and upbeat when things don’t go to plan. I’m keen to apply my written journalistic skills to audio, speaking to listeners in the same tone I use in writing: thoughtful, clear and quietly confident.

paper NCTJ Piece to camera example

A short piece to show how I present and communicate to the camera. It was adhoc with only the venue decided prior to filming on a smartphone. The quality of the filming is not for consideration.

paper Case Study: Do pubs maintain the nighttime economy in towns like Chippenham?

This video case study examines the role of pubs in sustaining the nighttime economy in smaller towns, using Chippenham as a local example. The piece examines social, economic, and community perspectives, combining on-camera presentation with interviews from a range of contributors to reflect different viewpoints.

I researched, filmed, interviewed and presented this project, bringing together vox pops and contributor interviews with clear, structured narration. The focus was on making a complex local issue accessible and engaging, while maintaining balance, accuracy, and a calm, authoritative tone.

This project demonstrates my ability to:
Conduct and integrate interviews with members of the public
Present confidently and naturally on camera
Structure factual content clearly for a general audience
Communicate social and economic issues in plain language
    Maintain editorial balance and clarity

    Format:
On-camera presentation with interviews/video journalism case study
