I draw pictures for a living – best job ever!
I live in the most beautiful city in the world - Cape Town, South Africa - with my wife and kids. Oh, and I love Lego, Star Wars and Superheroes.
It is always a great honour to be able to bring writer’s creation’s to life.
I’ve been at it since 2002 when I got my first job illustrating a children’s comic book about a Secret Agent and his cat (in watercolour – what was I thinking!).
Since then I’ve done four more of those comic books (not in watercolour by the way), graphic novels, children’s books (some of which have won local awards), educational books and character designs for various clients.
I’ve had the privilege to do work for many outstanding publishers including (in no particular order) Pan Macmillan South Africa, Shuter & Shooter Publishers, Pearson Education, Heinemann, Maskew Miller Longman, Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, NB Publishers, LAPA Publishers, the Christian Literature Fund, Zebra Publishing as well as a few self-publishing authors. Corporate clients include John Dory’s | Spur Group, Parmalat and numerous other companies, marketing agencies and organizations.
These days I work mostly digitally (except when I get the chance to do a private commission). I use a Wacom Cintiq 13" graphic display and Adobe Photoshop. When I need to do vector artwork I use Affinity Designer (I switched over from Adobe Illustrator) and I do book layouts in Affinity Publisher (switched over from Adobe Indesign).
Besides Illustrating I also love to teach and was a part-time lecturer at the Stellenbosch Academy of Design and Photography for about 10 years until 2019.
