Kia Ora, I’m Alex Herbert, a soon-to-graduate Bachelor of Information Technology student majoring in Software Development at NMIT in Nelson. I’m passionate about building full-stack software solutions with a focus on backend development, database design, and scalable system architecture. I also have experience with modern frontend frameworks like React.js and Vue.js, and solid grounding in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. My recent projects, both contract and academic, have been focused on full stack development, ranging from C#/.NET software solutions, SQL database design and administration, modern web platforms using various frameworks (React/Vue), RESTful API development, and cloud based data storage systems (MongoDB/Firebase). My capstone project, the AquaMetric Fisheries Catch Data Analysis Tool, was a full stack development project consisting of a multi-tiered C#/.NET API with CSV ingestion, user authentication, and data manipulation functionalities, as well as a React frontend user interface prototype. I also integrated a PostgreSQL database to store data due to it's strong relational capabilities. This project was developed prior to research conducted into the impact of commercial fishing on the environment and technology that is being used to mitigate the damage to fragile ecosystems. Work Experience

Web Development and System Administration at Boost Your Learning
March 1, 2025 - October 4, 2025
Contracted to develop an online education platform for BYL; implemented an automated booking system that creates calendar entries in TeachWorks via API on booking requests and automates the allocation of LessonSpace rooms to each booking. This required organizing subjects and skill levels with tutors so bookings could be automated via the website, removing unnecessary admin work.
Full Stack Web Developer at Ministry of Inspiration NZ
August 1, 2024 - October 4, 2025
Designed, developed, and deployed a full stack web application for the Empower festival, which promotes technology careers and provides workshops for school-aged children. I interviewed stakeholders, designed the UI, and developed a full stack application to buy tickets and present festival details. The stack included HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Express.js for the API, JWT for authentication/state management, and Google Firebase for the database, deployed on Google Hosting services.
