Charles Lumar II is a Durham, North Carolina based musician, composer, producer, and explorer. He expresses himself in whatever medium seems up to the task but can primarily be found playing a double bass, an electric bass, or a tuba.
Charles has performed and recorded with People Museum, Solange, and Kristin Diable (to name a few) and has toured the world playing shows at notable venues including Radio City Music Hall, the Guggenheim, The Getty Museum, the Kennedy Center, Glastonbury Festival, the Venice Biennale, and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
When not creating or performing music, Charles enjoys making visual art and matching his music to compelling images and videos. During the Fall of 2025, Charles attended the Vashon Artist Residency as a composer. He has also been in residence as a composer in the Kennedy Center’s Cartography Project, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and The League of Stars Astro-Retreat and Art-Residency.
Charles is inspired by the stars, birds singing, and his mother Elaine.
