I am a multi-disciplinary visual communication designer with a passion for design that is accessible, sustainable, beautiful and transformational. I have over 5 years experience as a professional designer— two years experience as an in-house designer and three years experience in a client-facing role. I love visual design not only for its ability to make things easy to use and understand, but also to bring ideas to life and make things memorable, fun and engaging. When I'm not designing you'll find me painting, hiking, travelling, or with my nose in a crime thriller book.

    uniE621 Decolonising Ohu Inspire brand
As Inspire Group progressed along a journey of embedding te ao Māori (the Māori world) into the workplace, there came a need for resources such as waiata (songs) and karakia (prayers) for the team to refer to, and so the Decolonising Ohu Inspire internal brand was born. As a pākeha (New Zealand European) designer, I decided to steer away from appropriating any Māori patterns or designs and instead was inspired by the art form of wood carving. Wood carving is an important aspect of Māori culture and storytelling. The graphic style I landed on was an imitation of prints made from carved wood using custom brushes and textures. The inline typeface used is also an imitation of carved wood. For the visual design of the waiata lyrics, I drew inspiration from the songs that are all around us in Aotearoa, the bird song, and created illustrations of native birds to sit alongside the lyrics.
uniE621 Te Reo eLearning modules for Watercare
My role in this project was to create a look and feel that would bring back the life, fun and value to learning at Watercare, and apply it to these modules about te reo Māori. I began with the Watercare water drop shape and built up a visual language inspired by the koru (unfurling fern frond) and geometric shapes often found in Māori art and design. I brought these geometric shapes to life through various illustrations with overlaid textures and the addition of some warmer colours to their colour palette.
    uniE621 Free-time illustration
In my free-time I love to crate illustrations. Here is an example of a digital illustration that I created using Adobe Illustrator.
    uniE621 Mind Matters eLearning module
Mind Matters is an eLearning module created by Inspire Group that businesses can purchase ‘off-the-shelf’ and use to support mental wellbeing within their organisation. With every sale, 10% is donated to a mental health charity of the buyer’s choosing. My main role was to create illustrations and animations in the existing off-the-shelf illustration style that would bring this module to life. Throughout the module, the ocean was used as a metaphor to talk about the ever-changing and unpredictable nature of thoughts and feelings. I built on this metaphor through the visuals, making fun connections to all things ocean-related
    uniE621 Inspire Group marketing
During my time at Inspire Group I had the privilege to work on the visual design for a range of creative marketing assets. Below are some bus back advertisements that I designed to promote Inspire Group. I created eight versions of these for different bus types and enjoyed the challenge of working within the constraints of the space available on each.
    uniE608 Trade Me marketing
During my time at Trade Me I had the opportunity to work collaboratively with marketing, communications, and other design teams to produce visual design for many creative marketing campaigns. This is an ad that I illustrated and animated as part of a Trade Me Jobs campaign—‘There’s someone for everything’. The brief was to visually represent the idea that anyone would be able to find a job to fit them on Trade Me Jobs, because of the large amount of job listings on site. I used this as an opportunity to play on the word ‘fit’, while also helping to promote certain types of jobs.
