Douglas Gibbens is an award-winning, independent Canadian filmmaker. He has a degree in Film Studies from Toronto Metropolitan University and has directed short films that have screened at the Foyle Film Festival, LA Film Festival, Pendance, and more. He has worked over a decade in the industry as an editor, shooter, on major productions as a VFX coordinator and data wrangler, and many other roles. For Douglas, film is a means of taking that which exists in our imagination and using it to understand, empathize, and reflect on the world in which we live. His focus is on narrative filmmaking and he uses elements of fantasy, science fiction, and horror to parallel that which is hard to confront in our real lives. His second short, Lakesong, features a sprightly score by Danny Elfman and was chosen by the composer himself alongside other renowned filmmakers including Rob Minkoff and Gus Van Sant to premiere at the 2017 LA Film Festival as part of the Danny Elfman Project: Rabbit & Rogue. He lives and works in Toronto, Canada and is always eager to see where the next story takes him.
